Excision

About Excision

Excision is a medical procedure that involves the surgical removal of abnormal or unwanted tissue such as skin lesions, or other growths.

Overview

Sometimes a spot, lump, mole or patch of skin may need to be sent to pathology, or simply be cut out as best treatment.

Dr Kathryn Holmes can assist in advising you about skin lesions and growths. She can perform small excision procedures in the clinic, or may refer you to a specialist for larger excisions.

The in-clinic procedure involves making a small incision around the targeted area to access the abnormal tissue. She will carefully remove the unwanted tissue, ensuring complete excision to minimise the chances of recurrence.

The small excision can be performed with local anesthesia, which numbs the area being treated.
