CFU Elite
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)About CFU Elite
CFU is cutting edge High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) technology. HIFU has been used for sometime in medicine and aesthetics. It’s first use was blasting apart kidney stones.
But now there is Centerless Focused Ultrasound. This technology brings a faster, safer, more precise and effective way to deliver ultrasound energy into the deeper skin layers to heat precise points at exact depths.
Overview
Ultrasound can stimulate new collagen formation as well as tighening skin. The handpiece focuses the ultrasound energy deep into the skin at sufficient temperature to stimulate collagen regeneration – a natural process known as neocollagenesis. The heat in the more shallow settings gives a tightening of the surface off the skin.

HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT?
Treatment times will vary depending on the area being treated and the characteristics of the individual client’s skin, but a face and neck treatment will typically take about 60 minutes.
What Areas can be Treated?
Face, neck and decolletage are the most common areas.
Of course, skin is skin, and other areas can also be treated – like crepey upper arms, knees, or central abdominal softness from pregnancies. On some body areas, deeper settings may be suggested which can reduce fat as well.
It is also used to treat hyperhidrosis (sweating under the arms). This usually requires 2-3 sessions but would be judged from visit to visit on the basis of clinical change in sweating.
Can anyone have this type of HIFU?
There are a few medical issues that we need to know about to plan your treatment. As it does involve heat, it would be recommended to have prophylactic antivirals if you are prone to cold sores and are treating the face. We don’t recommend it in pregnancy, or if you have recently had chemotherapy, or surgery on the area involved. Other issues will be discussed in Clinic, including significant cardiac issues, epilepsy, pacemakers, metal implants, and autoimmune diseases. Ultrasound is not the same as electrical energy where some of these things are absolute contraindications, but they may need to be considered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CFU hurt?
Each emission is felt as a small sting. Tolerance varies from person to person as with any treatment. Generally, it is described as uncomfortable with some areas – like over boney regions – being more sensitive. It is suggested to take 2 Panadol prior to the visit.
How many CFU treatments will I need?
A starting package for face/neck is 2 treatments a month apart. In some cases with a lot of skin laxity 3 treatments at monthly intervals could be recommended. To maintain the changes, a full multilayer session is recommended 2-3 times a year. However, it is possible to have shorter single layer treatment much more often as a refresh. We call this our CFU Facial.
Our Mayah Signature CFU Facial involves the single pass ultrasound plus a light microneedling with Exosomes in the form of Calecim Professional Serum.
Body treatments may involve treatments closer together depending on the area and the goal.

Is there Recovery time needed?
There is no makeup free time as there is no broken skin and normal activities can immediately be resumed.
However, heavy exercise would be best left for a day or 2 as any swelling settles.
Raised red papules (bumps) can occur on the skin which may take a few days to settle. It is not uncommon to get one or 2 of these, but around 5% of people will experience a wide scattering of these.
General redness immediately afterwards and the feeling of heat is expected.
Bruising can occur, but again, in only a small number of people.
Tenderness in the treated areas may take 1-2 weeks to settle in some people.
