What is it good to treat?
It used to treat lax skin on the face.
This is useful for around the eyes as this skin tends to be finer. It can achieve some lifting of droopy eyelid skin and improvement in fine lines. Other areas of crepey skin, like on the neck, or some cheek lines, would also fall in this category. Whether it is right for you, will depend on your skin thickness and other soft tissue considerations. In other words, having a consultation about it is the best way to see if you are likely to see good changes.
Can anyone have ThermiSmooth?
All skin types can be safely treated with ThermiSmooth. It uses electrical energy though, so any one with an electrically sensitive medical device implanted cannot have this treatment – for example a pacemaker, defibrillator, cochlear implant.
How does ThermiSmooth work?
Clinical studies have shown that collagen in skin will tighten when heated to a sustained temperature in excess of 42 degrees Celsius. It has also shown that when skin is heated to this level an inflammatory process commences that stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen over a period of time. In other words, it achieves subtle enhancements to the skin using the bodies natural healing response. Therefore the challenge is to deliver precise amounts of heat without overheating. The ThermiSmooth device is developed to meet these challenges safely and comfortably.
What happens in a ThermiSmooth treatment?
No anaesthetic is needed for this treatment. In fact we want you to talk to your therapist throughout the session giving feedback on the degree of comfort.
A small amount of ultrasound gel is applied to the skin and the thermismooth handpiece glides over the skin. The system is set to specific target temperature – (ie 42-45degrees C). Your therapist will gradually raise the skin temperature to the target zone. As the skin’s temperature rises the computer adjusts the energy output to ensure precision heating. The area needs to be maintained at the target temperature for about 5-7 minutes ( dependant on the region involved). It is our Clinic experience that once clients experience a session and know how it feels for them, it becomes a relaxing visit.
Is there any downtime?
No. There is no broken skin with this treatment. You will appear pink in the treatment area initially, but this can be covered with makeup.
